Hello world!
June 3rd, 2010Test for Black Mold
May 5th, 2010The most hated strand of mold is the deadly Stachybotrys, more commonly known as the dreaded “black mold.” This toxic black mold is known for causing a variety of illnesses, and some of the common symptoms of black mold exposure include:
chronic fatigue or headaches, fever, irritation to the eyes, mucous membranes of the mouth, nose and throat, sneezing, rashes, and chronic coughing.
Many new homeowners are willing to settle for a house with a history of mildew problems, due to the lower asking price of these troublesome properties. I often encourage first time homebuyers to consider these types of properties, as most are cleaned and inspected by a certified mold removal service long before they go to school, and a good mold cleaning will often be more than enough to deal with any lingering problems.
Still, whether it’s a new property or one you’ve had for awhile, it’s always advisable to test for black mold at the first hints of trouble. The health problems black mold can cause are ones which should not be ignored, and getting rid of black mold should be a priority.
You’ll need to first send away for a home mold testing kit. Of which there are two different types.
Home Mold Sampling
—
This kit will come with a simple petri dish and sterile swab to collect a mold sample. Simply wipe the swab across the mold infected area, and store it quickly in the included petri dish. Secure the lid with tape before mailing it back to the mold testing facility, which will be able to identify the particular strand of mold, which will allow you to proceed with eradicating the problem.
This service is relatively quick, and you should expect to be contacted within 2-4 business days of the mold testing service receiving the sample. Additionally, know many mold testing services offer a free home mold testing service as part of their regular inspection service.
HVAC Air Sampling
—
This step will allow you to make sure what you’re seeing is toxic mold growth, and not just some simple algae or other easily dealt with home pest. Complete the steps of swabbing the area and placing the swab in the petri dish. Next you’ll want to tape the open petri dish to a closed air system, such as an open air vent in your home. MAKE SURE YOU CAN DETATCH THIS VENT FROM THE REST OF THE SYSTEM. No point in spreading the growth to the rest of your house! If you want to set up some sort of makeshift rig using a simple desk fan, go for it! All that really needs to happen is for the possible mold sample to recieve some oxygen to feed its growth. After ten minutes of air exposure, secure the petri dish lid and let sit for 48 hours, checking in for signs of black mold growth. If nothing, you’re safe! If you see mold… well, it’s time to ship that bad stuff off to our friends at the black mold testing HQ!
Hope this gives you some confidence. As I always say, don’t fear mold. Killing mold is my business, and business is good!

Black Mold Removal Missouri – Additional Resources
April 29th, 2010http://www.stlouismoldremoval.com/ – Covering Illinois & Missouri. “The presence of mold in your house has nothing to do with how dirty or clean your house is. Mold is not dirt or grime that can be scrubbed or washed away; it’s an organic growth that has to be removed by qualified and experienced mold remediation contractors. Unfortunately, mold remediation companies are not governed by any industry rules, and therefore, it falls to your good judgment to choose a mold removal contractor who can rid your premises of mold quickly and safely. A mold removal specialist can rattle off the names of a dozen certification organizations, but this could be meaningless in the absence of solid experience in the kind of mold removal services you’re looking for.”

April 19th, 2010Given some of the recent weather we’ve been experiencing in the world, with flooding in Massachusetts, record water levels in Florida, and of course dealing with the cleanup of Hurricane Katrina, dealing with deadly indoor mold and mildew is a subject on many homeowner’s minds. There are numerous studies showing the dangers of mold, the health problems mold can cause and the very real need to deal with mold infestions before they grow out of hand.
Home Black Mold Testing – Finding the Source of Black Mold
April 19th, 2010Sometimes the hardest part of solving a mold problem is to identify the source of mold, essentially where the mold is coming from. There are some simple ways to check for mold, and sometimes the visible mold spotting or mold deterioration will more than point you to the source. However if you’ve done a home mold test and are unable to pinpoint the spores, it’s time to try and collect some mold samples. Look for the places mold might be hiding, as mold behind walls or floors can be some of the most obvious mold hiding spots. Once you think you’ve found a mold infected area, take a sample, which can be analyzed either by using a do-it-yourself mold testing kit, or by sending the sample off to a certified mold inspector (CMI). You’ll want to inspect possible mold inspected drywall by pulling free a core sample and looking for visible mold spotting or mold growth. Put your mold sample in a ziploc bag, marking it with your contact information and an identifier as to where it was pulled from. This should be mailed off to the mold laboratory of your choice for analysis.
Low-cost options for mold testing are lift tape mold sample, and bulk physical sampling. These “free mold testing” options are covered by our site in other posts, so look for those!
Black Mold Removal – Indentifying a Black Mold Problem in your Home
April 19th, 2010The first step to dealing with your mold problem is to figure out exactly what’s gone wrong, identifying you exact mold problem and figuring out strategies to eliminate mold.
The easiest step for most people is to hire a Certified Mold Remediator (CMR). These licensed mold professionals are fully trained to analyze the source of your mold problem, the type of mold involved, and within your home or business; indentifying areas infected by mold. These mold experts are often tied to certified mold removal services, who will be able to figure out exactly what your mold problems may be, and the best way to tackle them head-on.
If you’re more of a self-help nut, then know that there are a wealth of resources to dealing with household mold removal, “mold removal for dummies” if you will. Many bookstores now carry a variety of self-help guides to dealing with dangerous mold problems, helping you to identify molds and to figure out the correct mold solutions to eliminating any mold infestations you may have.
Some eBooks which I’ve found to be of help. A simple Google search should bring these up.
